tamra jal
Tamra jal, drinking water from a copper vessel, is yet another beautiful Ayurvedic practice that is said to balance all three doshas. It is recommended to take this water first thing in the morning after letting the water sit overnight so that it becomes infused with copper trace minerals. Copper is an essential micronutrient that sustains life and promotes longevity! It’s role in our bodies support so many important functions like collagen production, immune strength, bone health, melanin formation, fertility, and the list goes on. Metaphysically speaking, copper is said to have the ability to help us access Spirit and ground our lower chakras. It can clear stagnant energy and reduce negativity in the mind. So why not try a glass? ;)
It’s simple, fill a copper pitcher with naturally alkaline water like the one pictured here and leave on your nightstand with a copper cup by its side for easy access in the morning. You can also just buy a copper cup and forget the pitcher, fill that up and lay a cloth napkin over it and leave it by your bedside. Let the water sit at least 12 hours for the best results. Consuming 1 glass per day is plenty. The water should not have a strong metallic taste! It’s very important to keep these vessels clean— there’s a fine line between the health benefits and toxicity so handle with care or discontinue the use of this practice. Please don’t blindly follow the trend of drinking this water all day.
Cleaning with lemon, baking soda and salt after each use will help keep your copper vessel shiny and safe to drink from.
