Get familiar with your set-up and apply Ayurvedic principles to your Yoga Nidra practice by considering the following recommendations:

V A T A

Vata prakruti/vikruti benefits from longer Yoga Nidra’s, around 45-60 minutes. Make sure your body is warm and supported by soft blankets or pillows to buffer the hardness of the floor. Socks on your feet and a blanket placed over the abdomen can feel super cozy, too. When setting your Sankalpa, or heart-felt desire, consider things that foster faith and inner stability like “I have faith” and “I am stable.”

P I T T A

Pitta prakruti/vikruti benefits from a medium length Yoga Nidra, around 30-45 minutes. Make sure the room is not too warm and that your body temperature feels comfortable— if having a blanket over your body makes you feel hot then do without it. An eye covering may feel very supportive to block out any light during the practice. When setting a Sankalpa you may consider things that encourage surrender and wisdom like “I surrender” and “I am whole.”

K A P H A

Kapha prakruti/vikruti does best with a shorter Yoga Nidra, around 20-30 minutes. Kaphas have a tendency to fall asleep easily so skip the eye covering and prop your body up with extra pillows that are firm like boulsters so your body is in more of a reclined position rather than laying flat on the floor. When setting a Sankalpa consider things that support strength and the ability to manifest dreams like “I am powerful” and “I am in alignment.”
